Tomato: Ace 55 VF Organic Seed

Tomato: Ace 55 VF Organic Seed

25 Organic Ace 55 VF Tomato Seeds [approx]

Name: Tomato: Ace 55 VF

Latin Name: Solanum lycopersicum

Description: Ace 55 VF is a dependable slicing tomato variety, developed in the USA and prized for its low-acid, mild taste that appeals to those who find other tomatoes too sharp.

The large, round, red fruits weigh 200–250 g and are perfect for sandwiches, salads, and fresh eating. The “VF” denotes resistance to Verticillium and Fusarium wilts, adding reliability in the garden.

A determinate variety, Ace 55 produces heavy yields over a concentrated harvest period. Bred in the 1960s, it’s not strictly an heirloom but remains a popular, open-pollinated choice for home gardeners and market growers alike.

Growing Habit: Indeterminate

Sowing: February to May

Harvesting: July to October

How To Grow Ace 55 Tomatoes From Seed: Ace 55 VF Tomato seeds can be sown in small pots or seedling modules, indoors in early Spring. Germination is most successful at temperatures of 20°C or above. A heat mat or heated propagator may be needed to achieve this. Plant two seeds in each pot/cell. When the seedlings establish, thin to leave only the strongest one in each cell/pot.

When seedlings get to about 8cm tall, they can be planted into larger pots.

Tomatoes need heat and do best in greenhouses/polytunnels. If growing them outside, put them in a warm sunny area of the garden.

Plants will need to be supported by a stake or something similar to help the plant grow upwards and bear the fruit.

Seed count is approximate.
